Der schleichende Tod: Im Laufe der Jahre bemächtigt sich die Würgefeige ihres Wirtes. Dicke Triebe entstehen und legen sich wie ein Netz um den Baum. Irgendwann überragt die Würgefeige den Baum komplett und erdrückt ihn, indem sie seine Wasser- und Nährstoffzufuhr abklemmt. Im Lauf der Zeit verschwindet der tote Baum – übrig bleibt das riesige hohle Gerüst der Würgefeige.
The creeping death: Over the years, the strangler fig takes over its host. Thick shoots develop and wrap themselves around the tree like a net. At some point, the strangler fig completely overtops the tree and smothers it by cutting off its water and nutrient supply. Over time, the dead tree disappears - what remains is the huge hollow framework of the strangler fig.
